Is the redacted text truly removed from the PDF?

Yes. Unlike simply drawing a black box over text, our tool permanently removes the underlying content. The redacted text cannot be recovered, copied, or searched.

What can I search for to redact?

You can enter custom text queries and also use built-in patterns to find email addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, and dates automatically.

Can I preview what will be redacted before applying?

Yes. After searching, you'll see a preview with highlighted matches. Review and deselect any matches you want to keep before applying.

Does redaction work on scanned PDFs?

Redaction works only on text-based PDFs where text can be selected and searched. Scanned documents (images of text) require OCR first, which is not currently supported.

Can I choose the redaction color?

Yes. By default redacted areas are filled with black, but you can choose a different fill color before applying.
